Week 9: Reawakening Your Ambition: Reestablish Your Discipline and Drive

Gratitude of the Week: I am grateful that this past week I have truly dug deep to reestablish my bearings in my training.

Running and training is my life and without it I feel unfocused. Transitioning into a new environment with uncertainty of what is my next move caused a wave of overthinking. When I saw myself entering a space of feeling overwhelmed, I reasoned with myself, the priority now must be reestablishing a physical training routine. Having a habit of assessing my emotions and the cause has become a superpower of mine. Training is the number one antidote to my mental health and when I am in the groove, I am back to focusing on my goals with deep ambition.

This week was probably the first week in months where I was truly able to focus on my training and enjoy it. I missed the gym. Every day I was there for hours. Now, don’t get me wrong, you can get an effective workout in less than an hour, but I simply enjoy training. I did a nice long warm up, strength training and mobility, a long cardio session, and a long stretch session. Although I may have been at the gym for 3 hours, it was not maximum speed the entire time, but it was very intentional.  Because I am dealing with sciatica, I truly prioritize warming up and cooling down.

Although I cannot run like I desire to, I am accepting where I am in my training and doing what I can. This is a tough pill for me to swallow because I just want to run. Running one or two miles seems like I did nothing. I feel this way because I miss running mid and long runs; I am yearning for it. But I am learning that it is imperative to slow down to get where you need to be.

The only reason I am dealing with sciatica is because I was overtraining with running and undertraining my lower body. Therefore, I am now in a position that is forcing me to have a more balanced training regime. I feel very impatient, but I am reminding myself that this is all a part of the process. It is indeed humbling, but I am truly grateful that I am back on track and is pushing myself within my capable limits. I struggled writing this blog because this part of my journey is a very sensitive button, but I got through it. I am pushing myself to continue to strive and I am grateful for my own efforts for my own journey.
